Carolyn Eldred: A Commitment to Lifelong Learning
Carolyn Eldred is a longtime listener, volunteer and supporter of WAMU 88.5. She has WAMU on "all day long" and especially enjoys The Diane Rehm Show, The Kojo Nnamdi Show, Animal House, Wait Wait...Don–t Tell Me!, Car Talk and Science Friday.
She appreciates the collegial atmosphere of volunteering, whether it is a "stuffing party" to prepare mailings or answering phones during on-air campaigns. Carolyn especially enjoys morning shifts when she can see Diane, Kojo and their guests in action. She likes volunteering at WAMU because everyone is "so nice and so smart."
Carolyn is a very philanthropic person who values education and nature conservancy. Her own career as a research psychologist focused on social policy and programs. Her life and contributions reflect her interest in the human condition.
When thinking about her long-term charitable investments, Carolyn narrowed her focus to carefully consider how she would like her name to live on. "I became much more intentional in my planning so as to focus more narrowly on what I value," she says.
In April 2012, Carolyn included WAMU in her will and established an endowed fund to support the news department by providing training for up-and-coming journalists. Carolyn hopes that other listeners will join her in making a bequest to the station and provide for its future. She is pleased to make a difference to WAMU both today and tomorrow.
